The Provider Reimbursement Review Board (PRRB) recently proposed dramatic changes to the procedural instructions governing its appeals process. Providers seeking to appeal reimbursement determinations of their fiscal intermediaries must familiarize themselves with the new procedures or risk losing their valuable appeal rights. This presentation will provide a detailed analysis of the proposed procedural changes, highlighting the significant differences from the former instructions. It will also address areas of concern in the proposed instructions that may be the proper subject of written comments to the PRRB for its consideration prior to finalizing the instructions. In addition, the presentation will offer strategies for reimbursement departments in implementing changes to their internal policies for handling Medicare reimbursement appeals.
