As the numbers of new and complex medications in the market continue to escalate, costs are also increasing and healthcare providers face difficult decisions when deciding among medications to utilize. This presentation will provide administrators and CFOs with insights into partnering with their physicians and pharmacists to effectively utilize hospital-specific cost and outcomes analysis to make better informed drug therapy decisions that will lower expenses while improving clinical outcomes. Our speakers will discuss an integrated approach, Clinical Effectiveness Resource Management (CERM) that hospitals nationwide have implemented to identify optimal drug therapies from a financial and clinical perspective. The presentation will provide step-by-step overview of a CERM inspired program, Clinical Effectiveness Initiative (CEI), which applies to thrombosis care in hospital settings. Presenters will discuss sample interview questions for key stakeholders; and information from administrative databases that can provide insights into cost, utilization and outcomes. The presentation will offer case study examples based upon work with the participating hospitals in the current CEI study and illustrate benefits a CERM approach can provide.
