On August 12, CMS published the final Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) rule to revise the policies that govern payments to hospitals for services to inpatients. The final rule addresses: Changes to the DRG reclassifications and recalibrations of relative weights. Updates to the standardized PPS operating and capital amounts. Changes to the hospital wage index. Major expansion of the post-acute transfer policy. Other changes to the PPS for inpatient operating, capital and graduate medical education costs. Changes for hospitals and hospital units excluded from the acute-care hospital inpatient PPS.
