Many Patient Access departments perform a small sampling QA of registrations or none at all. Until recently, automated tools were not available to Patient Access for improving QA, so the task remained manual and labor intensive, as well as costly to the areas. This workshop will focus on the many benefits of implementing an automated QA tool. Beyond decreasing the manual audit effort, an automated QA tool analyzes 100% of the registrations, highlighting errors prior to discharge and billing. Bills go out the door faster and correctly, resulting in lower A/R days and improved reimbursement. Daily scoring allows both management and staff to identify problem areas where training and education should be focused. Orlando Regional Healthcare will share their overall Patient Access structure, how they motivate their staff through a career ladder approach and how they have utilized an automated QA system to bring the focus to the front in creating clean accounts. This process has resulted in a significant reduction in quality failures and back end denials. Staff have been able to shift from data management to focusing on other key efforts, like increasing up front cash collections.
