Registration errors are commonly reported as the No. 1 complaint of PFS staff and managers, the No. 1 reason for preventable denials and the No. 1 reason for rework in the PFS office. It stands to reason that improving registration accuracy will improve the entire revenue cycle on every level, especially when one considers that 70 percent of UB04 data elements come from registration and 50 percent of denials are registration-caused. Yet as an industry we are only recently tapping into the power that lies dormant within our patient access departments. Low salaries, inadequate training, high turnover, job complexity and the need for speed are typically blamed for poor quality in patient access. However, patient access employees and managers are poised to impact the revenue cycle like never before with the right tools and technology to help them improve accuracy for downstream coding and billing. This Audio Webcast will explore the new methods, tools and technologies that the patient access department can use to make an impact on registration and reduce denials.
